Moore Headlines All-League Selections
TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College running back Jaden Moore was named the National Southern League Co-Offensive Player of the Year to highlight the Wariors' 16 selections to the All-League Team.
Moore earned a spot on the first team along with his OPOY nod after playing in nine games for the Warriors. He became the first ECC running back in nearly 20 years to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season, doing so despite missing two games this season. He finished with exactly 1,000 rushing yards on 159 carries and scored 10 touchdowns.
Along with Moore, three other players were named to the All-SCFA Southern League First Team with 12 selections to the second team.
Brandon Jones and Nazarus Williams joined Moore on the first team offense while Cadence Turner earned a selection to the first-team defense.
Jones led the Warriors receiving corps with 783 receiving yards and eight touchdowns this season. He played in all 11 games and averaged 4.6 catches per game. He averaged 15.4 yards per catch and accounted for nearly one-third of the team's receiving touchdowns.
Williams was second on the team with 333 receiving yards and third with 21 receptions. He averaged nearly 16 yards per catch as a receiver but also spearheaded many of ECC's plays out of the "wildcat" formation as the quarterback. He had 89 rushing yards and one touchdown while also throwing one TD pass this season.
Turner played in all 11 games for ECC this year and had 46 total tackles, leading the team with 33 solo tackles. He also tied for the team lead with three interceptions this season.
The Warriors had six players named to the second-team offense and six earned spots on the second-team defense.
Sione Kailea, Aufaga Peapea, Jay Scott, Robert Salazar, Christian Miranda and Damonte Bias all earned spots on the offensive team.
Kailea, Peapea and Scott were all members of the Warriors' offensive line that posted one of the best rushing attacks in the entire SCFA. The Warriors had 2,545 rushing yards this season and averaged 231.4 rushing yards per game behind their stellar offensive line play.
Salazar was the Warriors primary tight end and played in all 11 games this season. He made 11 receptions for 128 yards and one touchdown on the season.
Miranda finished the year with 75 total points, the eighth most by a kicker in a single season in ECC history. He was 10-for-12 on field-goal attempts, hitting a 35-yarder for his career best. He was nearly perfect on extra points, going 45-for-46 on point-after attempts, the most extra points by an ECC kicker since 2006.
Bias had an outstanding sophomore season as he racked up 835 rushing yards on 118 carries as part of the team's vaunted rushing attack. He averaged 7.1 yards per carry and scored six rushing touchdowns. He led the team with 1,346 all-purpose yards as he racked up 56 receiving yards and 458 yards on kickoff returns. He finished his Warriors career with 907 kickoff return yards, the third most career yards in ECC history behind only ECC Hall-of-Famer Latario Rachal (1,380) and LeAndrew Childs (922).
Max Amasio, Dakari Harris, Dayton Norris, Tyler Black, Brett James and Latrell Cannon all earned selections on the second-team defense.
Amasio played in nine games on the defensive line and made 23 total tackles with 4.5 sacks, which tied for the second most on the team. He also led the team with 9.5 tackles for a loss.
Harris played in all 11 games for ECC and finished the year with 30 tackles as another member of a solid defensive line for the Warriors.
Norris was one of two ECC linebackers to earn All-League recognition. He finished the year with 42 tackles and led the team with 6.5 sacks. He tied for the team lead with Amasio with 9.5 tackles for a loss and also forced two fumbles.
The second of the Warriors' linebacker tandem selected to the All-Southern League squad, Black led the Warriors with 51 tackles this season. He also forced two fumbles and recovered one loose ball.
James earned his second straight All-League selection. The sophomore defensive back played in every game this season and made 40 tackles (22 solo). He had two tackles for a loss and had two interceptions this season.
Latrell Cannon also earned his second straight All-League nod after playing in all 11 games for ECC this year. He had 45 total tackles (27 solo), had one fumble recovery and tied for the team lead with three interceptions.
