TORRANCE, Calif. --- Freshman Rocco Gaffoglio hit the go-ahead jumper and added a free-throw late to lead El Camino College to a 65-62 South Coast Conference, South Division victory over L.A. Harbor on Wednesday evening at the ECC Gym Complex.
Gaffoglio, who led the Warriors with 19 points on the night, broke a 62-62 tie with a jumper from the top of the circle and drew a foul to put the Warriors up 65-62 with two seconds left.
The Seahawks had one last gasp to tie the game but Kristian Jemerson's half-court heave at the buzzer bounced off the glass and the front iron, giving the Warriors the win.
Jemerson scored 17 points for L.A. Harbor and Max Choi led the Seahawks with 23 points in 27 minutes off the bench.
Ryder Decena had his best career game for the Warriors, scoring 11 points on 50 percent shooting while adding a team-high three assists.
The game was close throughout with the teams trading the lead 14 times and no one leading by more than seven in the game. Neither team shot the ball well from beyond the arc as they combined to go 8-for-36 from 3-point range but the Warriors' aggression was rewarded with 25 free throws with the team converting on 16 chances.
The Seahawks, meanwhile, went 9-for-11 from the stripe.
The Warriors also maximized L.A. Harbor's mistakes, scoring 19 points off 13 turnovers. The Warriors also took care of the ball as they committed a season-low 11 turnovers.
With the win, the Warriors have recorded three conference wins for the first time since the 2014-15 season when they went 4-4 in SCC play. The 13 total wins also matches the 2022-23 squad with the most wins in a season since ECC's last playoff appearance in 2011-12.
The Warriors will get the second half of SCC, South Division play started on Friday when Compton visits the ECC Gym Complex. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
