Bugarin, Josic and Johnson Power Warriors Past Delta
TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College recorded a 16-10 non-conference win over visiting San Joaquin Delta on Thursday afternoon at the ECC Aquatics Center.
The Warriors led wire-to-wire and were only tied once early in the match en route to the win. Alex Bugarin led the team with seven points, dishing out a team-high four assists to go along with three goals.
Robbie Josic scored four times on seven attempts and Zane Johnson added four goals and two assists in the victory.
The first half was tightly contested as the teams combined for just 10 goals in the first two period. Mustangs goalie Joe Gabbard made 10 of his 18 saves in the first half to keep the deficit to just 6-4 at halftime for the visitors.
But the Warriors outscored the Mustangs 5-2 in the third period to take an 11-6 lead into the final period.
The cushion proved to be important as the Mustangs scored four times in the first five minutes of the fourth to cut the deficit down to three goals. But Bugarin, Josic and Ricky Calhoun tallied the final three goals of the match to secure the victory. The Warriors will return to action on Friday at the Ed "Tuna" Gorodetsky Tournament hosted by Santa Monica College. The Warriors will face Cypress at 12:40 p.m. followed by the host Corsairs at 5:20 p.m.
