TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College got solid pitching in the circle and timely hitting on Friday afternoon in a 4-1 South Coast Conference win over Compton at the ECC Softball Field.
Isabella Cardona and Jazmin McHenry combined to allow just one run to the Coyotes and struck out four batters apiece while Kate Pedroza and Melissa Terrazas accounted for three of the team's six hits and three RBIs to secure the win.
With the victory, the Warriors have now won seven straight games to open the 2026 season. Last year they opened the season with nine straight victories.
On Friday, the Warriors opened the scoring in the third inning with an RBI triple from Pedroza and an RBI single by Terrazas to make it 2-0.
After the Coyotes scored to cut the lead in half in the fourth inning, the Warriors manufactured a pair of runs to build the lead back up to 4-1. Terrazas hit a fielder's choice to short with the bases loaded to score the third run and then, with runners on the corners, Terrazas attempted to steal second.
She drew a throw and, after a short pickle, Bryanna Morales broke for home from third base and stole the base without a throw while Terrazas got safely back to first base and give ECC a 4-1 lead, one which they would not relinquish.
The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday afternoon with another home tilt against East Los Angeles. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
