Singer’s Triple Clinches Win for Warriors

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College secured an 8-0 South Coast Conference win over Rio Hondo in five innings on Thursday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Freshman Athena Singer sealed the victory with a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the fifth to get the Warriors to the run-rule margin of 8-0. It was just her second hit of the season in eight at bats but both were for extra base hits and she now has five RBIs on the season.

Estrella Tapia picked up the win in the circle, going three innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three. Isabella Cardona pitched two frames and allowed one hit with one strikeout.

On the day, the Warriors had three triples with two of them happening in the fifth. They finished the game with six extra-base hits with four players driving in at least one run.

Trinity Martinez and Kate Pedroza were each 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Emma Padilla had two RBIs.

The Warriors will be right back in action on Friday as they hit the road for a doubleheader against Fullerton with game one starting at 11 a.m.
