FULLERTON, Calif. - The No. 10 El Camino College Warriors stung the No. 7 seeded Fullerton College Hornets in a 2-0 winner-take-all game three to advance to the second round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals for the third straight season and the seventh time under Jessica Rapoza's leadership.
Game 3 - El Camino College 2, Fullerton College 0
Raquel Alonso tossed a complete-game shutout and picked up her 17th win of the season after allowing just four hits, one walk, and striking out two batters.
The Warriors took the lead in the fourth inning behind Kate Pedroza's second home run of the season.
The Warriors added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Miranda Morelos led the inning off with a pinch hit knock to center field. Kamaile Ho advanced her to second base on a sac bunt. Abigale Dedech ran for Morelos on second and advanced to third on a ground out from Trinity Martinez. With two outs, Emma Padilla reached on a error to third base to score Dedech to make it a 2-0 game.
Alonso allowed just one baserunner from the Hornets in the seventh inning with a one out single. However, she induced a fielder's choice and a groundout to end the threat from the Hornets and send the Warriors into the next round.
Game 2 Fullerton College 6, El Camino College 2
The Warriors dropped the first game of the day against Fullerton College.
The Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and added two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead.
The Warriors got two runs back from Emma Padilla in the bottom of the fifth after her two-run blast to right field made it a 3-2 game.
After closing the gap to one run at the end of the 5th, Juliana Ursino and Lisa Villanueva each hit a home run in the top of the sixth inning to extend the Hornets lead to 6-2.
Grace Workman allowed just one Warrior baserunner over the final two frames as she went the distance to earn her 10th win for the Hornets.
