MOORPARK, Calif. --- Freshman Tilliana Wakefield-Carl set a new El Camino College standard in the pole vault, breaking the 13-year-old school record on Friday at the Moorpark Open hosted by Moorpark College.

Wakefield-Carl took down first place at the competition with a mark of 3.68 meters (12 feet, 0.75 inches), breaking the ECC record set by Katrina Wilbanks (3.66m; 12 feet) in 2012. It was Wakefield-Carl's fourth victory in the event this season as she surpassed her previous season-best mark of 3.50m.

Wakefield-Carl also joined Wilbanks as the only women in ECC history to complete a pole vault attempt of 12 feet or better. She completed the feat on her first try at that height. She attempted to expand on that record with three attempts at 3.74 meters (12 feet, 3.25 inches) but came up short.

In addition to Wakefield-Carl's record, the Warriors swept the podium in the event as Misha Amir-Moazzami placed second with a mark of 2.92 meters (9 feet, 7 inches) and Valentina Amescua tied for third with a mark of 2.77m (9 feet, 1 inch).

Other highlights from the Moorpark Open included:

  • Savanna Mullins placed second overall and first amongst community college athletes in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.78.
  • Curtis Williams posted a second-place finish in the 100m high hurdles with a time of 16.02. He also placed third overall and second amongst community college athletes in the long jump with a mark of 6.48m (21 feet, 3.25 inches), a new personal best this season.
