Perez, Pleasant Shine at Gaucho Relays

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- El Camino College traveled to the Gaucho Relays over the weekend and took on NCAA competiton.

Gunner Perez on the men's side and Raelyn Pleasant on the women's side had great showings in their events.

Perez posted a second-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.95 meters (6 feet, 4.75 inches). He matched the top mark posted by Nathan Fifer of Cal Poly but Perez placed second as Fifer hit the mark on his second attempt.

Pleasant posted a top-10 finish in the long jump, finishing sixth with a mark of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4.25 inches). She also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.34m (37 feet, 2.5 inches), accomplishing the feat on three straight jumps after committing a foul on her first attempt.

Other highlights included:

  • Czarmaine-Erin Lara placed fifth while Karen Villena was sixth in the discus with marks of 28.10m (92 feet, 2 inches) and 23.76m (77 feet, 11 inches) respectively.
  • Lara also placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 25.42m (83 feet, five inches).
  • Devin Walton placed fifth in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.28m (20 feet, 7.25 inches)
  • Laighton Scott finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 38.01m (124 feet, 8 inches).
  • Kameryn Hurst won his heat and placed 12th overall in the 100m with a time of 11.14.
