Pinner, Kim, Scott, Lara and Wakefield-Carl Score Wins at Bakersfield Relays

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- El Camino College had a number of winners this weekend as they competed at the Bakersfield Relays hosted by Bakersfield College.

James Pinner and Tilliana Wakefield-Carl swept the pole vault for the Warriors as Pinner took the men's title with a mark of 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3.25 inches) to set a new personal record. Wakefield-Carl continued her excellence in the event with a mark of 3.50m (11 feet, 5.75 inches).

Czarmaine-Erin Lara also recorded a victory for the women in the javelin with a throw of 24.71m (81 feet, 1 inch). In addition, Lara recorded a second-place finish in the discus with a distance of 27.48m (90 feet, 2 inches) and fifth in the shot put with a throw of 8.67m (28 feet, 5.5 inches).

Doyun Kim scored his first victory of the season in the 1,500m with a time of 4:18.82.

In the discus, Laighton Scott scored the win by a slim margin, recording a distance of 43.60m (143 feet) with runner-up Ruben Rubio-Carbajal coming in at 43.45 (142 feet, 7 inches).

Other highlights from the weekend included:

  • Daniel Smith placed second in the men's 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.52
  • Isla Gonzalez finished second in the women's 800m with a time of 2:31.78.
  • Kameryn Hurst finished third in the men's 100 with a time of 11.00 flat.
  • Gunner Perez placed third in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.80m (5 feet, 10.75 inches).
  • Taylen Odhiambo was fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:16.56
  • Jacob Huberman placed fourth in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.93m (42 feet, 5.25 inches).
  • Karen Villena placed fifth in the discus with a mark of 26.09m (85 feet, 7 inches)
  • The women's relay teams performed well. The team of Cenietha Bates, Itseoritse Okoturo, Odhiambo and Wakefield-Carl placed second in the 4x100m with a time of 53.18. The 4x400 team of Gonzalez, Okoturor, Odhiambo and Wakefield-Carl also finished second with a time of 4:26.36.
  • The men's relay teams both posted third-place finishes. The 4x100 squad of Daniel Mattioli, Hurst, Trevaun Green and Devin Walton posted a time of 43.03. The 4x400 team of Smith, Cire Younger, Green and Daniel Reamer posted a time of 3:30.68.
