Pleasant, Skefich Record Wins at Dave Shannon Invitational
TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College hosted the annual Dave Shannon Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Murdock Stadium and the ECC Throws Field.
Raelyn Pleasant and Jadeyn Skefich each scored wins on the weekend while many others had solid pefromances.
Pleasant swept the jumping events for the women. She took first place in the long jump with a mark of 5.27 meters (17 feet, 3.5 inches). She took the lead on her third attempt that tracked at 5.17m and then hit her final, event-winning mark on her fourth attempt.
Pleasant also took first in the triple jump, posting a mark of 11.27m (36 feet, 11.75 inches). Her second, third and fifth attempts combined for the winning distance.
Meanwhile, Skefich scored a historic win in the 5000m on Friday evening. She finished with a time of 18:09.64, more than 40 seconds better than the runner up. Skefich also posted the ninth best time in the 5000m in ECC history.
Skefich would go on to place third in the 1500m on Saturday.
Other highlights from the weekend included:
- Isla Gonzalez and Siobhan Baltazar finished first and second respectively in the high jump. Gonzalez won the event with a mark of 1.35m (4 feet, 5 inches) while Baltazar posted a mark of 1.25 (4 feet, 1.25 inches.
- Czarmaine-Erin Lara placed fourth in the women's javelin with a throw of 27.57m (90 feet, 5 inches).
- The men's 4x400m relay team of Daniel Reamer, Cire Younger, Trevaun Green and Perez placed second in the event with a time of 3:25.47, just one tenth of a second behind first-place L.A. Harbor.
- The Warriors performed well in the men's javelin as Gunner Perez (2nd, 41.41m/135 feet, 10 inches), Laighton Scott (3rd, 40.95m/134 feet, 4 inches), Eric Nash (4th, 40.43m/132 feet, 8 inches), and Joshua Radeke (5th, 38.19m/125 feet, 3 inches) all placed in the top five.
- Jacob Huberman placed third in the men's shot put with a throw of 12.57m (41 feet, 3 inches). He also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.30m (138 feet, 9 inches).
- Gunner Perez placed third in the 110m high hurdles, posting a time of 15.71.
- Laighton Scott placed fourth overall and second amongst community college athletes in the discus with a distance of 44.30m (145 feet, 4 inches).
- Devin Walton finished fourth in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.44m (21 feet, 1.5 inches).
- Walan Kahn placed fifth in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 16.69.
- Kameryn Hurst placed fifth overall in the 100m with a time of 11.16.
- Cire Younger placed fifth overall and second amongst community college competitors in the 400m with a time of 50.76.
- Joshua Radeke finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.66m (12 feet).
