BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Sophomores Laighton Scott and Tilliana Wakefield-Carl made their marks for El Camino College at the 3C2A Southern California Finals hosted by Bakersfield College on Saturday.

Scott continued to shine in the discus, scoring the win in the event on Saturday with a throw of 49.14 meters (161 feet, 2.5 inches). It was his second best throw of the season, eclipsed only by his throw of 49.40m (162 feet, 1 inch) that won him the South Coast Conference title in the event. On Saturday, Scott's mark was nearly three meters better than Joseph Garcia of Riverside (46.85m) and Toni Babatunde of Mt. San Antonio (46.75m) who joined him on the podium.

Meanwhile, Wakefield-Carl made ECC history again, breaking her own record in the women's pole vault for the second time this season. She cleared 3.80m (12 feet, 5.5 inches) on Saturday to finish second overall in the event. She beat her own school record of 3.70m (12 feet, 1.50 inches) which she set at the Cal State L.A. Invite on April 16.

Last year, she cleared 3.68m (12 feet, 0.75 inches) on April 4, 2025 at the Moorpark Open to break the old ECC record set by Katrina Wilbanks (3.66m; 12 feet) in 2012 and joined Wilbanks as the only women in ECC history to clear 12 feet in the event.

Other highlights from Saturday's SoCal Finals included:

  • Raelyn Pleassant finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.49m (18 feet) and also placed fourth in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 11.63m (38 feet, 1.75 inches).

The Warriors will conclude the 2026 sesaon this weekend when they head to the 3C2A State Championships hosted by Mount San Antonio College.
