Bio
John Hall joined the ECC track and field coaching staff in 2014. In his first season, he produced
CCCAA State Champion (Crystal Lizaola) in the 400-meter hurdles while running the second fastest time in the nation. He also coached Syrea Hicks, who was the fourth-place finisher in the CCCAA State Championships in the 100-meter hurdles.
Over the past 11 years, Coach Hall has developed 17 hurdlers—both men and women—who have qualified for the CCCAA State Meet, including Lizaola (2014), Hicks (2014), Graham (2015), Alexander (2016, 2017), Tyler (2017), Foster (2018), Workman (2018, 2019), Mates (2019), Washington (2019), Hamachi (2022), Britton (2022), Matsuzaki (2023), Marschall (2023), and Taylor (2023, 2024).
Building a Legacy of Excellence
Coach Hall has enhanced ECC’s hurdling tradition, adding numerous marks to the program’s all-time performance lists:
- Women’s 100m Hurdles: 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th all-time marks.
- Women’s 400m Hurdles: 3rd and 8th all-time marks.
- Men’s 110m Hurdles: School record, plus 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 10th all-time marks.
- Men’s 400m Hurdles: 3rd, 8th, and 10th all-time marks.
High School and Collegiate Success
Hall’s influence extends to elite high school athletes. In 2014, he coached Misana Viltz to the boys’ 110m hurdles California State Championship, leading to his selection for the USA Junior World Team. That same year, Hall coached Kymber Payne to a third-place finish in the girls’ 300m hurdles. Additionally, four of his athletes earned NCAA Division I scholarships in 2014:

Hall has also mentored college athletes who went on to achieve significant milestones:
- Christopher Graham: 4th in the 110m hurdles at the CCCAA State Championships and later an NAIA National Champion in the 110m hurdles for Mid-America Nazarene University.
- Justin Alexander: CCCAA State runner-up in 2016 and 2017, ranked 3rd in the nation in the 400m hurdles (2017), and represented the USA at the IAAF Junior World Team competition in Poland (2016) and the World University Games in Taiwan (2017). He transferred to the University of Arizona following his standout career at ECC.
- Jasher Foster: ECC record holder in the 110m hurdles (14.11), 2018 CCCAA State Champion, and NCAA Division I transfer to UC Berkeley (Cal).
- Qwintin Workman: 2019 Southern California Regional Champion and CCCAA State runner-up in the 400m hurdles.
Recent Achievements
- In 2022, Dominic Britton (3rd, 110m hurdles) and Yuki Hamachi (9th, 100m hurdles) represented ECC at the CCCAA State Meet after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- In 2023, ECC qualified three hurdlers in four events at the CCCAA State Championships: Lincoln Marschall (3rd, 400m hurdles), Anthony Taylor (2nd, 110m hurdles; 5th, 400m hurdles), and Matsuzaki (2nd and 5th, 100m hurdles).
- In 2024, Anthony Taylor became the CCCAA State Champion in the 110m hurdles, missing the ECC school record by just 0.01 seconds, while also placing 5th in the 400m hurdles. Hall also coached Alexis Pitts, who placed 8th in the women’s 100m.

Academic and Personal Background
John Hall completed his Master’s degree in Performance Psychology in 2024. He is a tenured faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology at Long Beach City College. He resides in Hawthorne, California, with his wife Adrienne and their sons, Jett and Beau.
