TORRANCE, Calif. --- Freshman Aisha Burton scored a career-high 23 points on Friday night but El Camino College dropped a 70-58 decision to San Diego City on Friday night at the ECC Gym Complex.
The Warriors dropped their ninth straight game to open the season despite a great scoring night from Burton, who dropped 23 points in 28 minutes off the bench. She went 8-for-12 from the field and was 7-for-12 from the free-throw line.
Bella Blum added 16 points and six rebounds while Sammy Moore scored seven points with 10 rebounds, seven steals and four blocks.
For the Knights, Liliana Maldonado led the way with 20 points while Aamori Daniels added 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The teams went back-and-forth in the first half and went into the locker room tied at 34-34 after two quarters. The Warriors led by as many as 10 points in the first half but the Knights erased that to pull even by halftime and then opened the second half on an 11-4 scoring run to take a lead they would never relinquish.
The Warriors will return to action on Monday night as they take on Riverside in the annual ECC Christmas Crossover. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
