Hanson Records First Career Win as Warriors Down Canyons on the Road

VALENCIA, Calif. --- El Camino College women's basketball head coach Megan Hanson secured her first career coaching victory as the Warriors defeated College of the Canyons, 56-46, on Tuesday evening at Lee Smelser Court in Valencia, Calif.

Hanson took over the reigns of the women's basketball program in August, becoming the fifth head coach in the history of the program since its inception in 1977-78.

On Tuesday, the Warriors held the host Cougars to just 34 percent shooting and also forced 20 turnovers, turning those miscues into 27 points.

Christiauna Taylor led the team with 23 points and grabbed four rebounds. Maya Kelley had her best scoring night of the season, dropping 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. She also added eight rebounds.

Malani Calbert led the Warriors with 12 rebounds while Leah Richards dished out five of the team's 14 assists on the night.

The teams were tied once and traded the lead four times but ECC pulled away in the fourth, leading by as many as 14 points in the final period. The Warriors outrebounded the Cougars 45-38 including a 15-11 edge on the offensive glass.

The Warriors will take the holiday break off and return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 3 when they host Ventura for a non-conference game. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
