TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered a 72-48 non-conference loss to visiting Copper Mounatin on Saturday afternoon at the ECC Gym Complex.
The second quarter proved to be the deciding factor as the Warriors were outscored 20-4 in the period after trailing by just one point after the first quarter. The teams traded the lead four times and were tied once during the first quarter.
Despite the loss, Leah Richards and Maya Kelley once again set new career marks on Saturday. Richards led the team with 15 points, setting a new career high just one game after accomplishing the same feat. Kelley notched her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists.
Malani Calbert grabbed 11 rebounds while Christiauna Taylor added 13 points, five boards, two assists and two blocked shots.
The rebounding battle also proved pivotal in Saturday's result as Copper Mountain had 57 rebounds including 20 on the offensive glass which led to a 15-5 advantage on second-chance points.
Both teams hit eight shots from beyond the arc but Copper Mountain hit at a better percentage (8-for-18, 44.4 percent) than the Warriors (8-for-26, 30.8 percent).
