Women’s Basketball Suffers Heartbreaker in Overtime

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered a heartbreaking 71-68 South Coast Conference, South Division loss to L.A. Southwest in overtime on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors led by six with 45 seconds left in regulation but could not hit their free throws to put the game away, missing seven of eight attempts from the charity stripe. The Cougars would pull even on a corner three-pointer by Rian Dillahunt with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 61. The Warriors had one more chance to win the game but missed two free throws to send the game to overtime.

In the extra period, the Cougars again pulled off late heroics as Kelis Jones banked in a 3-pointer as time expired to lift the visitors to a comeback victory,

The Warriors had four players score in double figures on Wednesday with Morgan Jackson leading the way, scoring 18 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Malani Calbert added 16 points and 15 boards while Leah Richards and Maya Kelley added 10.

Dillahunt led all scorers with 23 points for the Cougars with Jones adding 16 in the win.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday night on the road at Cerritos.
