TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered a 3-0 non-conference loss to No. 2 Cypress on Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field.
The Warriors played even with the No. 2 Chargers for the first 45 minutes and had a golden chance to take a lead into the half but three second-half goals from the visitors proved too much to overcome.
Overall, the Chargers outshot ECC 29-14 with a 14-7 edge in shots on target. Goalkeeper Jordan Stemberga made a season-high nine saves in net but it was not enough as the Chargers scored three times on incredible shots in the second half.
The first shot that beat Stemberga came from Joey Duong, who fired from 20 yards out and tucked the ball just under the crossbar and over the outstretched hand of Stemberga for a perfectly place opening goal in the 54th minute.
Just three minutes later, Amelia Perez pulled off nearly an identical shot that tucked itself underneath the crossbar for a 2-0 lead.
Naomi Lee would curve a shot from the top of the box to the left side of the goal for the third and final tally in the 76th minute.
Both teams were level 0-0 at halftime but the Warriors had a great opportunity to take the lead in the 32nd minute after Evie Campbell was taken down inside the box.
The Warriors were awarded the penalty kick but Campbell's attempt was stuffed by goalkeeper Guadalupe Rodriguez to keep the game scoreless.
On Friday, the Warriors will return to action at the ECC Soccer Field against Mt. San Jacinto. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
