Warriors Open Conference Play with Dominant Display over Cubs

TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors women's soccer team defeated LA City College 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon at home at Warrior Field to start South Coast Conference play.

The Warriors dominated the Cubs from start to finish for the full 90 minutes. They had a season high 28 shots with 13 shots on goal.  The Warriors outshot their opponents 28-to-1 for the game.

Citlalli Sarahi Sanchez, Barcelona Heredia, and Leah Garcia all scored for the Warriors.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the 7th minute after Citlalli Sarahi Sanchez scored on a corner kick with her ball deflecting off a Cubs player into the net.

Jordan Stemberga made her only save of the game on the Cubs only shot in the 32nd minute.  

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a 14-to-1 shot count.

The Warriors continued to spray the LACC goal with shots to increase their lead and were finally rewarded twice in the final ten minutes.

Barcelona Heredia scored her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute. After Citlalli Sarahi Sanchez sent a ball through traffic into the box after a free kick. Heredia got on the end of it and shot it past the keeper to make it a 2-0 game.

The Warriors scored their third goal of the game in the 90th minute. Evie Campbell had a shot blocked and Leah Garcia got the rebound and chipped the ball off the crossbar. She was the first to the ball on the rebound off the crossbar and put it past the keeper to make it a 3-0 game.

The Warriors will be on the road for their four matches and won't return home until Friday, October 24th at Compton. The Warriors will head to Long Beach City College this Friday. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
