Warriors Ranked in Top-10 in First Volleyball Rankings of Season

Riding a five-game unbeaten streak to start the season, the El Camino College women's volleyball team is ranked No. 9 in the first California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches' Association State Top-25, which was released on Monday.

The Warriors break into the rankings in the top-10 after scoring sweeps in three of their first five matches to start the year. In addition, three of the Warriors wins this season have come against teams also ranked in the top-25.

Most recently, the Warriors rode an excellent showing from Aiko Waters to defeat No. 13 Cypress in four sets on Sept. 6 at the ECC South Gym.

The Warriors have also scored a sweep over No. 18 Saddleback in a neutral site match at the Long Beach Quad Tournament and defeated No. 25 Orange Coast on the road in the opening match of the season. The Pirates have won eight straight matches since their loss to the Warriors.

Waters (65, 3.61) and Jaylin Motley (59, 3.47) currently lead ECC in kills and kills per set average while Sarah Dyer has dished out 96 assists in five matches. Waters leads the team defensively with 53 digs while Renee Brydon has tallied 14 blocks.

The Warriors will face another tough week as they face No. 4 Bakersfield at the ECC South Gym on Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by matches against No. 3 Canyons and No. 6 Grossmont at the El Camino Tri-Tourney on Friday.
