The El Camino College cross country team took part in its second race of the season Friday morning at the Southern California Preview Invitational held in Central Park at Santa Clarita, Calif. and saw the women's team improve for its initial outing this season.
Deanna Takaoka helped lead the Warriors women's team to a ninth place finish in the 5,000m race, which was won by defending state-champion Glendale. Takaoka finished in 20th place in 20:45. Freshman Savannah Sehenuk came in close behind in 22nd position with a time of 20:47 and Brianna Harmon placed 30th (21:03). Sarah Simpson (72nd; 22:27) and Larae Richardson (191st; 28:19) rounded out the Warriors top-five finishers.
On the men's side, Carson Bix paced the Warriors with an 18th place finish, crossing the line in 22:03. Matt Arruda placed 33rd for the Warriors while Michael Yaskowitz finished the four-mile race in 22:51. Caleb Ko (22:54) and Mijo Sestich (23:13) rounded out the Warriors racers.
The Warriors will return to action on Friday at the Golden West Invitational held at Central Park in Huntington Beach, Calif.
