SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The El Camino College men's & women's cross country teams competed in the Master's University Collegiate Invitational on Saturday morning at Central Park. It was a large field composed of NAIA's, Christian Colleges, Top-Ranked NCAA Division III Colleges, and some Division 1 and 2 colleges. The men's race was an 8,000m race (5 miles) that composed of over 33 different teams. The women's race was a 5,000m race composed of 29 teams.
The men's race was won by Biola College. El Camino College came in a solid second place with 129 points, five points behind second place Occidental College. Carson Bix once again led the Warriors with another podium finish. Bix came in 3rd place with a time of 24:58. Gabe Plendcio of Biola College came in first place with at time of 24:52. Ethan Comeaux followed Bix by coming in at 20th place with a time of 25:43. Manny Gil came in third for the Warriors at 29th place with a time of 25:59. Matt Arruda was fourth for the Warriors in 37th place with a time of 26:08. Caleb Ko rounded out the top 5 finishers for the Warriors by coming in 55th place with a time of 26:37.
The women's race was won by UCLA. El Camino College came in a solid 16th place in a very competitive field. Grace Hoffman once again led the Warriors by coming in 68th place with a time of 19:39. Savannah Sehenuk came in 92nd place with a time of 20:15 and Sarah Simpson was narrowly behind her coming in at 95th place with a time of 20:19. Carmen Hernandez was fourth for the Warriors coming in 123rd place with a time of 21:01. Deana Takoaka rounded out the top 5 finishers for the Warriors coming in 146th place with a time of 21:52.
The Warriors will sit idle for this week before competing in the Mt. Sac Invitational next Friday, October 12th. This will be the first time that the No.1 ranked Mt. Sac and No.2 ranked El Camino College will compete head-to-head this season.
