Skefich Wins First Career Race at Pirate Invitational

VENTURA, Calif. --- Freshman Jadeyn Skefich made a grand debut on Friday morning by winning the Pirate Invitational hosted by Ventura at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura.

In El Camino College's first meet of the season, Skefich bested 26 other runners in her first career collegiate meet. She crossed the finish line of the 5,000-meter course in 19:47.7, nearly two minutes better than the runner up.

Fellow freshman Denisse Ocampo finished in 30:09.5 in a meet that featured four community college programs and Cal Lutheran.

On the men's side, the Warriors finished fourth in the team rankings out of six teams with 104 points. Glendale placed first with Long Beach City placing second.

Nathaniel Lincourt was the top finisher for ECC with an eighth-place finish, crossing the line in 24:02.2. Navier Quezada (25:37.5) and Juan Avellana (25:38.2) finished 22nd and 23rd respectively with Joshua Spradlin (26:52.4) and Rodolfo Guzman (27:02.5) finishing in 34th and 35th.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday morning at the Oxnard Invitational hosted at Oxnard College.
