Skefich Makes it Two Straight Wins at Oxnard Invitational
OXNARD, Calif. --- Freshman Jadeyn Skefich logged her second straight victory to begin the season on Friday morning as El Camino College participated in the Oxnard Invitational at Oxnard College.
The freshman finished the 5,000m course in 18:07.7, already improving on her winning time from last week at the Pirate Invitational in Ventura.
She finished nearly 11 seconds better than Angeles Feliciano in second place, who ran unattached. Skefich held a 1:12.3 margin over her next closes community college competitor; Jessica Vigil of Mount San Antonio. It was the second straight week she finished more than a minute better than the next best community college competitor.
Along with Skefich, three other runners participated for the women with Ayla Barbosa making her season debut in 21st place with a time of 21:45.1. Fellow sophomore Emily Gutierrez placed 23rd in 21:59.3 and Denisse Ocampo finished the course in 25:01.6. The Warriors were one runner shy of qualifying for a team score, which Mt. SAC won with a score of 16. Cerritos was second with 45 points and Oxnard finished third with 78 as 42 runners competed in the women's race.
On the men's side, the Warriors placed 3rd out of six complete teams with 107 points. Cerritos was first with 19 points and Mt. SAC placed second with 41.
Nathaniel Lincourt led the way for the Warriors with a 22nd-place finish, crossing the line in 22:08.6. Doyun Kim (40th; 22:45.7), Juan Avellana (42nd; 22:51.6), Rodolfo Guzman (56th; 23:48.8), Shoichi Fujii (62nd; 24:00.9), Joshua Spradlin (69th; 25:26.3); Gabriel Amezcua (72nd; 25:36.5), Danyel Rafiq (26:51.7), Lucas Delay (27:44.6), Jason Tandoc (28:13.1) and Iker Gomez (29:47.3) all competed for the Warriors on Friday.
The team will return to action on Friday, Sept. 19 at the Golden West Central Park Classic.
