Skefich Headlines Performers at UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- El Camino College traveled to Riverside on Saturday to take part in the 44th Annual UC Riverside Invitational hosted by UC Riverside.

The stacked field consisted of a mix of NCAA Division I, II, III and community college competition.

A week after not competing, freshman Jadeyn Skefich finished second overall in a field featuring a staggering 251 runners. She set a new personal record with a time of 17:41.80, besting a number of NCAA competitors. She finished six seconds behind winner and fellow 3C2A runner Maya Natarajan of Moorpark, who finished in 17:35.80.

The Warriors also ran five athletes for the first time this season and placed 19th out of 26 teams, beating out a seven other teams including four NCAA teams.

Ayla Barbosa finished the race in 20:16.20 with Emily Gutierrez (20:42.52), Denisse Ocampo (23:40.10) and newcomer Emily Williams (31:34.90) rounding out the results for the women.

On the men's side, Doyun Kim paced the Warriors with a time of 27:30.70 in the 8,00 meters open invite race. Juan Avellana came in with a time of 28:05.50 with Rodolfo Guzman (28.38.70), Shoichi Fujii (29:20.90) and Joshua Spradlin (30:23.10) rounding out the top-five finishers for the Warriors in a massive field that featured 510 competitors.

The Warriors will take a break this week and return to action on Friday, Oct. 10 at the SoCal Regional Preview at the Naval Training Center Park in San Diego, Calif.
